Privacypolicy

The short version

• There's no account, and Then & Now has no servers of its own. Mahalo Mochi never receives your photos or data.
• The app has no analytics, advertising or tracking code.
• Your albums live on your iPhone and, with iCloud Sync on (the default), in your own iCloud.
• Any album can be locked with Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode.

What the app keeps, and where

On your iPhone, and in your iCloud if iCloud Sync is on:

• Your albums, their settings and their photos
• The measurements you log with each photo
• Your reminder schedule and preferences
• The profile you choose to fill in (a name, a photo and what you want to track)

Photos are saved without their original metadata, so a photo's location isn't kept. Then & Now records the date each photo was taken so it can put them in order.

iCloud Sync

iCloud Sync is on unless you turn it off (More → “Backup”). Your albums and measurements sync through your private iCloud database, and your photos are stored in your iCloud Drive, both under your Apple Account. Apple runs that storage under its own privacy policy. Mahalo Mochi can't see any of it. If you've turned on Advanced Data Protection, Apple encrypts it end to end.

Turning iCloud Sync off stops syncing on that iPhone; what's already in iCloud stays there. To delete it, open the Settings app, tap your name, then iCloud, manage your storage, choose Then & Now and delete its data.

Apple Health

If you add a measurement from Apple Health and allow it, Then & Now reads only what you choose from: body weight, body fat, lean body mass, BMI, waist circumference, resting heart rate, active energy and steps. It never writes to Health. Health values are kept on your iPhone, are not synced to iCloud, and are never used for advertising or shared with anyone.

Permissions

The app asks for each of these only when you use the feature:

• Camera, to take progress photos in the app.
• Microphone and Speech Recognition, for the voice timer, which listens for “Now” and “Redo” while it's on. Recognition is done by Apple's speech service: depending on your iPhone, the audio may be processed on the device or by Apple. Then & Now keeps none of it.
• Photos, to import photos you pick, and to save photos or exports to your library when you ask it to.
• Notifications, for the reminders you set. They're scheduled on your iPhone.
• Face ID or Touch ID, to unlock private albums.

Face ID and private albums

Private albums use Apple's LocalAuthentication. Your face or fingerprint is checked by your iPhone's Secure Enclave; the app only learns whether it matched, and never sees or stores biometric data. Private albums lock again when you leave the app.

Purchases

Premium is bought, redeemed and restored through the App Store. Apple handles payment and tells the app only which plan you have. Mahalo Mochi never sees your payment details.

When you contact us

If you email us (from the app or directly) or post in our Discord, we receive what you send, such as your email address and message, and use it only to reply and improve the app. Discord is optional and covered by Discord's own privacy policy.

This website

The Then & Now pages on mahalomochi.com use Vercel Web Analytics, which counts page views without cookies and without identifying you. They don't use Google Analytics or advertising trackers. Your choice of colour and light or dark mode is saved in your browser only.

Children

Then & Now doesn't knowingly collect any information from children under 13, and the app collects no personal information from anyone.

Your choices

• See everything the app keeps, in the app itself.
• Delete any photo, measurement or album in the app.
• Deleting the app removes what's on your iPhone; delete the iCloud copy as described under iCloud Sync.
• Copy your photos out any time with More → “Backup” → “Export Photos to Camera Roll”.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date.
